“Sir” Reginald Anthony

English Teacher

“Sir” Reginald Anthony is an American artist-teacher whose work spans numerous creative fields. He started his career as a guest dancer on the popular teen TV show “Dance Party USA” in the mid-eighties. This was the same show that helped new artists (at the time) like Madonna, Will Smith, and Duran Duran gain wider exposure in the Tri-state area (Philly, Jersey, and NYC). Reg played bass drum, rapped, and was a founding member of The Germantown Library Crew. He was also one-half of the underground rap duo KEV and RPA. Reg would later perform as a solo artist after leaving Philly and heading to upstate New York to attend the University of Rochester where he became known as The Psychologist of Rap. Reggie’s career as a legitimate emcee was personally “co-signed” by Hip Hop scholar Blastmaster KRS One at the university.

Later on in his career, Reg moved away from the spotlight as a rapper and worked behind the scenes as a music journalist and publicist. He had a brief stint working for Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes of TLC. He’s also worked as a consultant at So So Def/ Columbia Records, collaborating with award-winning artists like Alicia Keys, Brian McKnight, Faith Evans, and Jagged Edge. In addition to publishing articles on the music industry, Sir reported on notable painters and muralists in the art world. His work has taken him as far as the People’s Republic of China where he co-hosted a Top 40 radio show while teaching American English to media executives and tutoring young, gifted pupils.

A few memorable quotes from “Sir” Reginald Anthony:

“Picasso once said that every child is an artist until the age of six, which means we have to do everything in our power to cultivate the natural gifts and talents in our students.” –SiR

“One cannot trust in public institutions to look out for individual creativity.” –SiR
